I have a few computers. My favorite has an AMD Athlon 64 3700+, 2 GB
of OZC Gamextreme memory, an OCZ 700 watt power supply, a DFI Lanparty UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert (or something
like that, anyway!). I have a pair of PNY
nVidia 6600 graphics cards driving a couple of 19 inch LCD monitors. They’ll handle two more, but I haven’t
gotten that far as of yet. I also have a
KWorld video capture card for recording analog video. The processor and memory are overclocked a
little (memory is DDR500, so the main clock speed is 250 Mhz, and the processor
multiplier is 10x for 2.5 Ghz). I added a
Thermaltake Mini Typhoon CPU heatpipe cooler for a little lower temperatures,
which it takes care of nicely. This
system has been more of a hobby than a necessity, and has been quite a project.
My second computer has an AMD Athlon 64
3000+, 2 GB of cheaper memory (4 sticks of 512 MB), Thermaltake 420 watt power
supply, and an Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard.
I’ve had this computer for about two years, and it was my first
experience at building my own box. Right
now, I have a 16 port capture card (PV-183_16) installed right now, from www.bluecherry.net, and plan on setting
up a video surveillance system with ZoneMinder and Linux installed on this
machine.
Our oldest computer is a Gateway Performance
500, with a PII, 500 Mhz processor and 512 MB memory. This one, when I get it back to operational
condition, will be in the garage for parts lookups, woodworking tips and
tricks, etc, so I don’t have to run into the house all the time to look
things up. The garage is already
networked to the attic; I just have to figure out a drop, and run the cable.
We also have a Dell Inspiron 8100 Laptop,
which we bought in March of 2002. This
computer still performs well, and does everything I need it to do. No reason at all to replace this one.
